What it does
iNat BioPoster TrailCam is designed for people who work with many trail camera videos. It helps review local video files, capture high-quality JPG screenshots, organize records and prepare observation data for iNaturalist.
Screenshot capture
Capture JPG screenshots from paused video frames and group multiple screenshots into one observation.
OCR assistance
Use OCR to help read date and time information from the video footer when preparing observations.
iNaturalist preparation
Autocomplete taxa, places, projects, tags and observation fields, then prepare data for future iNaturalist upload.
Privacy and local workflow
The videos stay local on the user’s computer. The app is designed so that only selected screenshots and observation data would eventually be sent to iNaturalist.
Current development status
The app is still in development. The interface, video review workflow, screenshot capture, OCR behavior and folder organization can be tested now. Direct iNaturalist login and upload are not fully available yet because they require an iNaturalist application authorization key.
Feedback is welcome
Suggestions and bug reports are especially useful from people who use trail cameras, camera traps or regularly upload many observations to iNaturalist.
